It's time to demystify the art of putting on comforter covers! In this tutorial, we'll reveal two techniques that will make this task a whole lot easier. Never let a comforter cover give you a hard time again.
Method 1: Threading a comforter cover the traditional way
- Lay out the comforter: Lay the comforter flat on the bed, making sure that the longer side of the comforter is lengthwise to the bed, and the shorter side is widthwise to the bed. Make sure the comforter label is at the head of the bed. This will ensure that the label is at the bottom of the comforter cover when you insert the comforter into the cover.
- Turn the duvet cover inside out: Turn the comforter cover inside out and spread the comforter cover over the comforter.
- Grab the corners : Put your hands inside the duvet cover through the bottom opening, until you reach the top corners (one corner in each hand). Grasp them while holding both corners firmly.
- Turn the comforter cover right side out: Without letting go of the corners, turn the comforter cover right side out. Lower the cover onto the comforter and shake it until it completely encloses the comforter. Make sure you hold the comforter cover firmly so that all the corners of the comforter are evenly distributed inside the cover.
- Lay out the comforter. Make sure the bottom corners of the comforter fit snugly into the cover and spread it out on your bed. Done!
Method 2: Changing comforter covers using the roll or burrito method
- Prepare comforter cover and comforter : Turn the comforter cover inside out on the bed, with the opening at the bottom, level with the feet. Lay the comforter on top of the cover, aligning all corners and edges.
- Roll up the comforter: Take the top edge (opposite the opening) and roll up the comforter with the cover to form a roll.
- Grab the corners : Once the "burrito" is tightly rolled, slide your hand into the cover to grasp one of the bottom corners. Grab the corresponding corner of the comforter from the inside of the cover. Then turn the cover over this corner of the comforter to place it inside the cover. Do the same on the other side. The bottom corners of the comforter will be inside the cover.
- Unroll the comforter: Unroll the comforter. The cover will automatically position itself around the comforter.
Threading a 1-person comforter cover
Threading a 1-person comforter cover is easy once you've mastered the first two techniques! We invite you to test both to find the one that suits you best.
When should you change your comforter cover?
How often you should change your comforter cover depends on a number of factors:
- If you shower before going to bed, you can space out the washing of your sheets every two weeks. However, it's recommended to wash them every week to guarantee their cleanliness.
- If you shower in the morning, it's best to wash the sheets every week to maintain their cleanliness.
- If you sleep in the nude or are ill, it's advisable to change the sheets twice a week to eliminate germs.
- In summer, when perspiration is more abundant, it's advisable to wash sheets twice a week to guarantee fresh bedding.
At what temperature should I wash my comforter cover?
To effectively eliminate dust mites, we recommend washing cotton or linen comforter covers and sets at a temperature of at least 60 degrees Celsius. Washing in cold water or at 30°C will only eliminate 30% of mites, and some stains may remain. Be sure to limit the number of revolutions when spinning. Excessive spinning can damage fabrics and make the cover much more difficult to iron.
